THE HUGH BALLANTYNE SLIDE SHOWS - 1 : LMS 0F TO 7P

100 mins.

(All the Slide show DVDs are of the standard type, playable on any normal DVD player).

For the first time, one of Hugh Ballantyne's famous slide shows given at venues up and down the country is being offered on DVD.  The images are mostly in colour, going back to 1961, supplemented by a small selection of b & w images going back to 1950, over 175 images in all. These are presented in a magnificent slide show of optically-scanned and enhanced pictures with a full informative commentary.  The show begins with an overview of all the classes that were to be encompassed in the proposed 1946 LMS locomotive standardisation scheme along with views of  many other former LMS and constituent types that continued to work for much of the BR steam era. The next section contains overall views of a number of ex-LMS steam depots and then we take a journey down the West Coast Main Line with superb lineside views at many locations between Euston and the Clyde Valley. This is followed by scenes taken on various other lines that had belonged to the LMS.  The DVD concludes with scenes of ex-LMS locos working over "foreign" metals in the UK plus a small number of views depicting LMS-designed 8F 2-8-0s overseas.

THE HUGH BALLANTYNE SLIDE SHOWS - 2 : GREAT WESTERN STEAM IN COLOUR : VOLUME ONE

78 mins.  Over 120 images.

For the first time, Hugh Ballantyne has placed at our disposal his entire collection of colour photographs featuring former Great Western steam locos at work on British Railways which are covered in two slide show DVDs.  Volume One contains an overview of all the Great Western steam classes that were still extant in 1961, the year Hugh took up colour photography.  Further chapters feature views at Swindon, including locos undergoing heavy overhaul inside the works, lineside  and station scenes in the Bath and Bristol areas and a similar selection in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.  Full informative commentary. Covering the years between 1961 and 1965.

THE HUGH BALLANTYNE SLIDE SHOWS - 3 : Great Western Steam in Colour : Volume Two

74 mins.  Over 120 images.

The second volume featuring Hugh Ballantyne's Great Western collection of colour slides.  This disc covers lineside, station and depot scenes on such routes as Swindon - Gloucester, Gloucester - Hereford, Gloucester - Cheltenham and Worcester - Oxford, together with views on the MSWJ route and on several branches, all of which closed soon after Hugh visited them.  Further scenes cover South Wales, both on the main lines and in the valleys.  Hugh also travelled on, and photographed the last regular steam-worked "South Wales Pullman" in 1961.  Full informative commentary. Covering the years 1961 to 1966.
